Barnstondale - The Charity

Our Impact

Our charity is the only one of its kind in the area and plays an integral part in the offering to young people. A visit to Barnstondale can really make a difference and change our visitors’ perspectives, offering new experiences or overcoming challenges in ways they never thought would be possible.

As a charity, it's our mission to make what we do available to as many young people as possible. We offer bursary places to children who would otherwise be unable to come and experience our centre. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors, and our annual operating surplus, we strive to support more children year on year.

Our Impact

  • 100% of bursary applications supported by Barnstondale
  • £34,656 donated by Barnstondale to support children since our bursary scheme began in May 2021.
  • 837 children supported by our bursary scheme
  • 97% of our visitors have rated us 'EXCELLENT' overall.

Governance

Meet Our Trustees

Our Trustees are a voluntary and dedicated group who ensure that Barnstondale runs smoothly and sustains its focus in transforming the lives of young people.

Vicki Trustee

Vicki Shaw

Chair Of Trustees

Vicki Shaw is a solicitor by profession and has worked in Local Government for many years, specialising in Child Protection work. Vicki has been a Trustee at Barnstondale for over 20 years and has connections to the Centre going back to 1969. Vicki firmly believes that Barnstondale offers a wonderful environment which can enrich the lives of young people from all walks of life.

Cate Trustee

Cate Warbrick

Vice Chair of Trustees

I trained as a nurse in the mid-eighties and spent my early career in the NHS as an orthopaedic nurse and for the last 20 years in senior management. I took early retirement so that I could spend more time being actively involved in my local community. I chose Barnstondale because it is such a local community organisation that means a lot to the people of Wirral. Seeing all the new things Jon and the staff had done during COVID and hearing their plans for the future instilled hope that not only will Barnstondale survive, but we would be back, and even better than before!

John Elliot

John Elliott

Trustee

I’m a partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants and have over 30 years experience in my field. I was approached by an existing trustee to find out more about Barnstondale with a view to becoming a trustee. Knowing how difficult it can be to recruit new trustees and having seen the set up and extensive facilities at Barnstondale, I was then happy to join the board. What has pleased me the most up to now has been the changes I’ve seen during my 2-year period, with Jon’s appointment and the transformation he has brought to the centre.

Peter Davison

Peter Davison

Trustee

My background is mainly in the arts, but I’ve worked as a fund-raising and development consultant for a wide variety of not-for-profit organisations, including schools and museums. Barnstondale is an important institution on the Wirral, serving young people, and it is a privilege to be part of it.

Diana Russell

Diana Russell

Trustee

I have been associated with Barnstondale for over 20 years and have worked as HR advisor to manufacturing and finance companies in places such as America. I was asked by the owner of the Centre to join the Board of Trustees. This fitted in with my vision of being part of an organisation which provided a facility where young people could flourish and grow as individuals.

Danny Griffiths

Trustee

I have been teaching for 20 years and currently the Deputy Headteacher at Kilgarth SEMH Community Special School. I became a trustee because I realise the potential that the centre has to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people of the Wirral peninsula and beyond. I love seeing young people grow and develop through the experiences that the centre provides.

Trustee

Jonny Brennan

Trustee

I am a Pastor in a local church and also run a business providing graphic design and website services to small and medium charities. I am married and have two kids, love sports and you will often find me in an independent coffee shop. I am passionate about Barnstondale and the incredible experiences it gives everyone who visits.

Trustee

Jac Jenkins

Trustee

Jac leads the local authority’s outdoor activity provision for vulnerable children and is a long-standing scout leader. He is a recently qualified primary school teacher and works on the Wirral. Jac joined Barnstondale in 2020 after working closely with the centre as a consumer. He was enthused by the forward thinking vision of the centre and was keen to become a trustee to provide youthful energy to the centre’s ongoing development. Jac adds value to the board in the areas of activity development, meeting the needs of vulnerable children and customer experience.
